Join Dale Photo & Digital and Leica Camera, Inc. for a photographic adventure through New Hampshire and Vermont. Over the course of the one-week trip, you will have the opportunity to photograph a wide variety of classic New England subjects amidst the beauty of Fall Foliage. From covered bridges and old barns, to waterfalls and scenic mountain vistas, this trip will be a great opportunity to get gallery quality shots with the amazing Leica S2 medium format digital camera system.
S System Specialist Kelsey Fain from Leica Camera will be on hand to give help and advice, as well as provide loaner S2 cameras and S lenses to those participants who don't already have an S system.
While other cameras are certainly allowed on this trip, the focus is on the Leica S2 and learning how to use the system to its full potential. Current owners as well as those wanting to try the system out for a week of real shooting are encouraged to attend.
Why this trip is different
This is not a workshop where you spend most of your daylight shooting hours sitting in a classroom. Why travel to some of the most beautiful and picturesque locations just to be stuck indoors? Instead, we will focus on making the most of each and every day to capture as many great photo opportunities as we can.
One of the benefits of going on an outing with Dale Photo & Digital is access to a wide assortment of unique and custom accessories for use with the Leica S2. Expect to find a broad array of Pentax 67 optics, including the 400mm ED-IF, many Hasselblad V lenses and two technical cameras with lenses, all for use on the S2 with adapters.

Lodging
We will be based primarily out of two hotels, one for New Hampshire and one for Vermont. On the arrival day, October 3rd, we will be staying in an area airport hotel so that we can all depart together the next morning.
Omni Mount Washington Resort
Starting in the heart of the White Mountains, we'll spend three nights at the historic and grand Mount Washington Resort. Built in 1902, this AAA Four Diamond hotel is one the Grand Dames of New Hampshire. Situated at the base of Mount Washington in Bretton Woods, the hotel is an ideal launching-off point, as it is just a few miles from both Crawford Notch State Park and Franconia Notch State Park.
The Woodstock Inn
The Woodstock Inn is perhaps one of the most iconic hotels in Vermont. This AAA Four Diamond hotel features top-level accommodations and cuisine in a warm and laid-back atmosphere. Located at the center of the quaint Village of Woodstock, the Inn makes for a perfect home base in Vermont. The village is just a short trip from many picturesque locations including classic Vermont farms, scenic Route 100 and Green Mountain National Forrest.
Meals
When we are not out taking pictures, we'll have plenty of time to feast on the local cuisine of New England. Vermont is famous for its focus on locally sourced, farm-to-table cuisine, not to mention pure maple syrup, pancakes, artisan cheeses and butter, as well as great local microbrews.
Each morning, we'll fuel up for the day with an extensive breakfast or, if leaving early for sunrise shooting, a continental breakfast to-go. Each evening, we'll relax and discuss the day over gourmet four course meals in either the hotels' excellent restaurants or in other local top-quality eateries. Rest assured you will not go hungry and you will not be eating fast food.
Transportation
Our mode of transport will be by a caravan of minivans, rather than by tour bus. This will give us much more flexibility to traverse back roads and stop as we need to. And with just four or five passengers max per van we'll have plenty of room for photo gear.
Each participant will be responsible for arriving in Manchester, NH by October 3th. Shuttle service from the airport to the hotel will be provided. On October 10, transportation will be provided from Woodstock, VT back to the Manchester, NH airport.
What to Expect
While the accommodations and meals are all first class, this is primarily a photography trip. We will be shooting some days from before sunrise until after sunset. We will be covering a fair amount of ground each day by mini van, with many stops along the way to get out, explore and shoot. At each destination, there will be plenty of time to set up your tripod, compose your shots and get in some quality photography. The goal isn't to rush off to the next stop, but rather take full advantage of each photo opportunity as it presents itself. In this regard, the schedule will be somewhat flexible. If everyone wants to stay in a location longer, we will.
If spouses or guests prefer not to go out all day with the photo group, they are welcome to remain at the resort and relax, take advantage of the spa services, or just go out and explore.
All of the photo locations that have been scouted will require no more than 1/3 of a mile of easy hiking to get to. Most are right off the side of the road. The idea is that we'd rather spend more time shooting and less time getting to where we want to go.
What to Bring
The weather in New England in Fall can vary widely. In general, we expect very pleasant temperatures, but this can change by location, elevation, or even by the hour. Dressing in layers and quick drying fabrics is highly recommended. Be sure to bring comfortable and broken-in waterproof hiking boots and a good quality rain shell.
You will want to have a high quality tripod which is light weight, yet sturdy enough for windy conditions. Our recommendation is a 3-Series Gitzo carbon fiber model like the GT3541XLS or similar. Because we are not doing an extensive amount of trekking, you can get by with a large shoulder bag, but still may find a photo backpack the most comfortable and spacious option. Polarizing and neutral density filters are highly recommended as we will be shooting a fair amount of streams and waterfalls along the way. These filters can make all the difference.
