Preliminary testing indicates that the scratch does not show up on photos, which is pretty incredible. But, every time I use this lens, which is frequent, and look at that scratch, I will feel sick. I am going to start searching online for a replacement. Several people have already expressed interest in buying this lens, though no price has been discussed. The lens was in excellent condition when I bought it a year ago; I had it 6-bit coded by Leica right after buying it. In 30+ years of shooting professionally I never scratched a lens. Last year I dropped a practically brand new Leica 28 mm Elmarit, which Leica was able to repair. And now this scratch ……
If you don't see any difference then I suggest to put a filter in front, this will hide the scratch from your eyes and then I suggest to forget it π
In the meantime you can look out for a used / damaged one that may serve you as a spare.

craigHello Craig
I have seen your portfolio (zenfolio, I guess) and wanted to ask you about how you sell your prints. I didn't find any price or order form (but maybe I'm just plain stupid)
I'm making finart nude pictures and I plan to sell some sets in near future (you may vistit my website: http://www.steves-photo-art.com)
So if I may ask I wonder how you sell your beautiful pictures? Only on the website, do you have a store? What prices do you ask for?
Regards
Stephan

it is always difficult to give an advice without knowing for what a lens would be used.
If you make makro, well, then the choice is simple. For fashion and portrait I prefer the 180, but you will need light for short shutter speeds, or flash or CS or both. I prefer the rendering and bokeh of the 180 (didn't test the Elpro thoug, as I'm waiting for it for some time now). if you make wildlife the extra mm will help you as well.
Btw I'm more than happy with the Hasselblad HC 100 for portrait work.
For all those lenses and focal lentgh on the S2 AF is crucial (IMHO), so a non AF-lens is not an option (for me of course).

that's really beautiful!

until now I have been using the great Hasselblad 55-110 with adaptor
how is the Leica compared to the Hasselblad?

I have given up π‘
I just will have my 120 upgraded, but my two other lenses will stay as they are ……

I really get mad on the CS-lenses.
I gave my 120 to my dealer for the upgrade, but he didn't send it nowhere as he don't know nothing about the upgrade program (he asked me to joind the packing thought).
Same for my 70 that I finally canceled to upgrade for the same reason.
And not to speak for my Elpro, that was told to be in stock, but finally wasn't (or sold to someone else): No idea when it should come.
The CS (customer service) of Leica is as absent as the CS-lenses π
Whish you all a merry Christmas π

I've seen allready your thread in the LFI, I'm almost sure that there should be a way to use multple SF58 in TTL – mode (TTL HSS is almost the same just for different purposes/shutter speeds) when you set one as master and the other as slave.
As I just have one SF58 i cannot test it myself but there should be a way to do that.
As far as I understood, Leica has a special sales-person for the S-System. I suggest to contact the person for your country/region and ask for more detailled informations about this topic

I registered all my lenses and never got a voucher or what ever.
I don't get the argument about used lenses. When Leica sold the first S-lenses to the customers, they made a clear statement that they will upgrade those lenses for the price difference (mostely 1000 Euro) later once the CS-option is available (and they were talking about months, not years). I don't see no valuable argument to limit this clearly stated offer LATER without further notice. First, there is obviously no difference for Leica if the first or second or third user comes in for an upgrade (in contrary, this can be a good oportunity to get a new customer). Second, the possibility to upgrade later was priced in in the product at the moment of sale. If Leica comes later and restrict this option, they have to pay a compensation (not to speak about the loss of renomΓ©) to the owner of the lenses.
What is the cost for a customer when Leica limits the upgrade program? When you bought a S-Lens with the idea to upgrade it later, and want to do it now, you have to sell your lens and will loose about 20-30 % of the value of the lens (maybe even more as other will have to do the same at the same time). I think this is simply not an acceptable option.
Personally, I have bought 2 Hasselblad lenses (HC 100 and HC 150 mm) and one adapter. Having to do this is in itself allready an issue, but when Leica doesn't come out soon with a customer friendly solution, I may switch to Hasselblad alltogether. Their lenses arent bad at all.
Btw, I sent in two of my lenses for the upgrade about 6 weeks ago and didn't even got a feed-back what will happen and when.
This said, the “pro-aspect” of Leica is much put in front in their advertising and marketing, but actually I find their customer service not “pro” at all.

Hello Roger
I can't disagree more about point 2!
It should be possible for EVERY owner of a S-lens to upgrade before the date of first delivery of CS-lenses (something in autumn 2012). Why? Many of us bought standard S-lenses, new or second market, with the strong will (and no other option anyway) to upgrade later to CS-lenses.
The CS-lenses were promised long time ago, and the upgrade program was a main argument to invest in the Leica S-system. The restriction od upgrading up to a specific date was made later, and poorly communicated.
I would be highly disapointed when I wouldn't be able to upgrade the two lenses that I intended to upgrade to CS.

sorry to say that, but in my opinion this is the worst of both worlds (exept you have still some R-glas and didn't find another way to use them).
If I see some (limited) use using longer R-lenses on the M, I really doubt if this makes a sense for wide angle and zooms (again, the longer zooms may be an option).
The M is all about being compact.

good point Mark, I second that!
I have to say if I had to choose only 1 camera, I would keep the S2 and maybe add a D-Lux π
But in fact there are so many occasions where the M is usefull, where you don't want to go with a 20ooo+ system or you don't want to wear heavy and intrusive equipment that it would be hard for me to imagine a life without M.

This is definitely a “grey area” right now, but I will be asking Leica about this when I see them in New York this week.
this is really an important question. We should all insist that any buyer of Leica-S lenses is elegible at least till end of 2012! Finally it's a premium product, and, much more important, not the customer were responsible for the very late delivery of the CS lenses.
Remember that Leica put the CS-lenses in the center of the marketing of the new S-system, and we are somewhat of p….ed off that now they try to find subtile arguments to exclude some earlier customers (and those from the second-hand market).
I sent two lenses for the upgrade (one where the CS-price was allready payed!) and will see how they behave. For me the credibility of the marketing of Leica is in question
(I hope that someone from Leica reads this)
