• thats really a good news, as it seams that the CS-lenses will never come (I don't believe they will come in october)

the question is, what lenses can be recommended in the 60- 100 mm range. As far as i heard those lenses are not made by Zeiss anymore, so I'm a bit doubtful

    any suggestions?

Sorry to say that, but I get a bit annoyed by those D800-S2 comparisons. Just because they have almost the same pixelnumbers, Nikon and Leica are so different concepts and systems so they just cannot be compared.

When you invest in a professional camera system you should consider the whole package (as flashes, light systems, lenses and other…[Read more]

  • stephan replied to the topic 180mm or 120mm First? in the forum S Lenses 12 years, 9 months ago

with no doubt the 120 first. It's a very nice portrait lens, that can be used indoors as well as outdoors. The 180 will be a nice addtion though, for outdoors when you have enough light

The only irritating aspect is that the sensor attracts a lot of dust (as bad as the M9) and cleaning does not help much as I get spots immediately afterwards, when shooting at f11-22. An ultrasonic cleaning system would really be helpful here…

same for me here, don't know why this sensor is so difficult to clean

  • incredible!!!

very beautiful landscape, thank you for sharing!

  • Indeed the Elmarit 90 is a very pleasing lens, I love it too. I especially apreciate the built-in lenshood.

If you can live with a half stop less light, then considering the Macro-Elmar is an option. More compact (collapsible), it delivers excelent result.

The beauty of the Leica lens-line-up is that you can use most older lenses without…[Read more]

This issue with the loose front ring on the 180 mm lens, can it be resolved by myself? Or has the lens to be sent in? I also wonder why this important part of the lens (with the serial number) is not fixed differently.

I may add that my batterie charger was broken, still didn't get any replacement.

And I also have some dirt in the…[Read more]

  • stephan replied to the topic System Flash in the forum S2 12 years, 10 months ago

I find that when using “TTL-HSS” mode with the SF-58 in aperture priority or manual exposure there is a capture delay that more often than not results in my having missed the image given that I often shoot uncooperative moving targets. I assume that I am doing something wrong, but I do not know what. Any suggestions would be…

But Leica, please do not continue the trend of making all of your expensive goodies available.

don't worry, they don't. Still waiting for my CS-Lens 😎

    Greetings from switzerland as well

  • what i really need is a more intuitive way to select the ISO-setting

and another suggestion (even if probably complicated to implement):

I need a limitiation of the focus-range for the 120 macro. As the lens don't have such a limitiation, it screws all the way through the focal range, which takes much time. So a limitation from 2-5 m for…[Read more]

  • Well, this is common. The longer you charge your batteries the nearer you get to 100%, but rarely reach it. I have 3 batteries for the M9 and they are all the same. Btw from what I heard so far a complete recycling of the batteries is not needed or helpful, and will in contrary reduce batterie life.

    Knowledge is the solution.

    well, yes

but let it put into another perspective: One of the S2 selling arguments is the ease of use and weather sealing.

Unluckily, I work in the norther hemisphère, where light is going off qulickly in the evening. Also, I love to shoot in dark places, just yesterday in a cosy Café, where you cannot b…[Read more]

Lighting vastly expands the applications of a camera like the S2 well beyond available light work …

    so true!

I'm courious to hear what you suggest as solution for an available-light-look-alike lighting for the S2

  • stephan replied to the topic Advice need from wedding shooter in the forum S2 13 years ago

Speaking of off-camera … that is the single most productive thing you can do creatively … I frequently use a radio controlled set-up with the SF58 set on A, and shoot one-handed which requires the use of a hand-strap. (see attached).

I use this setup also with my pocket wizzards and flashes in M-mode. Will try this once with A-mode as…[Read more]

I really don't think that the S2 is about digital gadgets, it is just a splendid camera concept, a very well thought tool.

It doesn't make you good photos, but I can tell you about more than 100 photos I wish I made with the S2 during the last 5 or even ten years.

Imagine tomorrow (and it's never to late) you make the picture of your…[Read more]

I'd be interested in what you folks, who spend much more time thinking of these matters, have to say about the longevity of the S2 system and if it will still be a force to reckon with 5 years from now. Is anyone concerned that it will be an irrelevant tool 5 years from now?

2-5 years, wow, who will know if we are still here then? And in 2-5…[Read more]

  • I'm not surprised. The SU800 is a data transmission tool for iTTL, not just a simple IR-trigger. It probably needs some processing power or data input from the camera to work, even in manual mode.

Does this Schneider Lens come with a Leica-Bajonett or with something else and an adapter?

Here's a question for those that have touched the real thing … are they bigger fatter longer? How much more do they weigh?

from the documents on the lenses, the CS-Version weights about 150 g more than the non-CS (for the 120 mm lens). The size should be the same
