Thanks for the links, Bob. I have the original Quasar LED Loupe, but it can't focus on the S sensor. Which loupe do you use ?

I'm not looking for perfection at all, but I'd like to look after my own camera and preferably just use a blower on an upturned body.

Yes, I'm clear on that, but I'd like to see the sensor itself when I'm cleaning it with a blower, or sticky lollipop. Do you inspect via the LCD when cleaning ?

I often use Hasselblad V lenses and I suspect they carry more dust into the camera, even after rigorous vacuuming. The Leica repair centre here, shoot a file and inspect files on a iMac …… remove the lens, clean the sensor, inspect another file ….. And repeat. quite hit and miss, I feel.

I just unboxed my new S-E after completing a great deal with Leica UK. I'd had some problems with the S2 and they were sympathetic, I believe.

The S-E has the grey top and whilst I'd prefer the all-black, that wasn't an option at the price offered. So Special-Edition it is. 🙂

A question: has anybody found a magnifier that will allow inspection of the sensor for dust ?

I only have the 35 & 70, plus a clutch of Hasselblad lenses. Never used the 45mm.

I have tested my two S lenses against each other and found that my 35mm has far greater resolution compared to my 70mm. Not saying this will be true for everybody. What I am saying is that the 35mm is a very fine lens indeed.

If the 45mm is as good as the 35mm can be, it'll be excellent. It might be worth testing.

    Yes, excellent images. Thanks.

I have the 35 & 70mm Summarit-S lenses and 5 Hasselblad V lenses. Few of these get used regularly as the 70mm is my go to lens, so the much lower investment in Hasselblad lenses is helpful whilst maintaining a fabulous level of quality. I would like to complete my set with a 24mm too, as it's way beyond the limits of the V system and may release my SWC to help fund it.

Excellent series and I favour the third if ever there was a need to state a preference. The installation shot is very special as we rarely see such shots.

Look forward to your tutorial on printing. 😮

A Pancake lens and I hardly care what focal length it is. I just want something small and light so I can carry the camera everywhere. I don't mind if it's manual focus, it's about portability. The S might have twice the size of sensor compared to an M, but compare a 35mm S to a 35/28mm M lens and it's scale gone mad.

6 months ago, I talked to Stephen Schulz about a lens like the Mamiya 80mm f1.9 and suggested a Summicron would be ideal. It may happen one day, but the development plan is already in place for several years.

I firmly believe that a small lens, or two, is essential for the expansion of the S into amateur markets. I believe the amateur market is needed to support used S camera pricing and reduce the cost of ownership. It'll open up the market and increase volumes, IMO.

I've experimented and found that if I fit the Grip, I can hand hold for 2 stops longer in the portrait mode.

I'm comfortable shooting below 1/100s, even 1/40s with some losses, whereas without the grip I try and stay shorter than 1/249s. Must be down to camera movement and of course this may only apply to me, but I've tested this enough to be certain. To test I stood in front of a mirror and focussed on the lens text with lenses up to 180mm.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any idea when they announce the dates for the next year? Cheers,s
    Pete

I anticipate the dates will be available before the end of this year. It's bound to be Friday 12 September through 14th.

Tickets are available for each day, or for the event which has a substantial saving. Grandstand seating and the main paddock are extra. I've avoided both of those so far. Other paddocks, trackside and the aircraft display are included in the ticket price.

All days are busy, but Friday is the quietest. Sunday is like Ladies Day at Ascot.

    Hope that helps.

    Gary.

    Thanks, Peter.

Be aware that there are a lot of returning customers and accommodation in the area is difficult to secure. For next September, it would be good to have a bed in place by the end of January.

Need to get your entry ticket by May.

In addition to the hotels & B&B, there is low cost accommodation at the University and on camp sites. Last year I stayed in B&B for £150 a night; this year I camped in a National Trust orchard just 4 miles away from the race circuit. Cost was £11.40 for 4 nights ! Great food at local pubs.

Beauty was that travelling the back roads took just 10 minutes and I rarely came across another car until I reached the queue for the car park. 🙂

Bit of overkill, but thought this would give a flavour for the event.

All these taken with the S2 and the 70mm Summarit-S. Carried the camera, bag and a 35mm for two long days. Third day I took just Canon 1v and a Ricoh GRD4.

    🙂

I avoid the racing and shoot what's going on around the track.

The race I did shoot was in poor conditions and causing me to shoot wide, panning, at high ISO and pick my shots. Not something that the S2 is built for. 🙂

There was a Canon 1Dx clattering away next to me and hardly any of his shots were in focus. Spray and pray approach !
