+1 I'm quite happy with the colors and the IQ the S2 gives me and I'd like more MP's and DR.

Perhaps CMOS would be a wise decision for Leica because on the MF forums there seems to be a high demand for better high ISO and live-view, so this could bring in new customers for the S. If Leica manages to keep the price of entry into the system a bit lower that would help a lot too.

OTOH, I know of at least two high profile photographers who say they don't like the (colour-) rendering of the M240 sensor. I tend to agree with them from what I've seen floating around. Maybe if the upcoming S gets a CMOS, Leica should take a long hard look at other sensor manufacturers, besides CMOSIS. After all, we're talking about their flagship camera. Color and IQ should come first.

I'd also prefer a fast focusing portrait lens, an f2.0 would be fine. I'm not sure about the focal length though. A 100 mm would perhaps be too close to the 70 mm. A 150 mm would be better for me and I'd like it to be truly a portrait lens in such a way that it becomes legendary for the beautiful way in which it renders skin(-tones) and faces in general.

Thanks Gage, I just wanted to know the aperture you used.
Congrats on your 24 mm. It looks wonderful.

Thanks Gage, about the EXIF, if you're a LR user, you can set ‘include EXIF' on export. As for the OOF picture, I see what you mean, I think the ‘bokeh' of this lens looks wonderful in this shot, very smooth and soft.
The other two really look amazing, sharp and nice contrast into the corners.

    Thanks, Peter

Thanks for sharing, two questions if I may:

1 Why'd you take out the EXIF? To me that's the most interesting part of looking at pics on this forum.

2 What's the purpose of showing the first picture that you called OOF?

    Congratulations and thanks!

Please post some results with this combo, I'd be curious to see what these lenses can do on the S2.

Just a quick update: the second adapterI tried had exactly the same issues as menos describes. This made me reconsider my purchase. I've sent the adapter back for a refund, obviously there are adapters that work flawlessly, but you know, twice bitten … I cannot work with an adapter that is unreliable. I'll stick to S lenses for now.

Hi Jack, thanks for sharing. I like the way the sunlight brings to life the trees in the foreground in version one. OTOH I prefer the shadowless pathway in the second version and I can see how this is very important for the composition, because it directs the eye to the background without any shadows sort of blocking the view into the distance. YMMV, of course.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Stephan, I really like the look of these images too. Care to share your secret sauce and tell us how you arrived at these colors and contrast?

Sorry to hear this. I hope Leica can sort out these issues because I really like the idea of adapting lenses on the S system. But for €1729,- I would expect an adapter to work flawlessly.

After 3 weeks I'm still waiting for a replacement, mine was DOA.

    Jack and David,

thanks, that's good advice, the difference in download-time is certainly worth carrying the CF reader.

As a side note, the S2 seems to prefer the CF card. When I first got the S2, I tried to update the firmware with an SD card, but couldn't get it to work. With a CF the camera recognized the firmware and did the update very quickly without any problems.

    Cheers,

    Peter

Thank you for pointing me to your article, David. I remember reading it at the time, but had completely forgotten about the ‘parallel' writing.

Anyway, I have a 32 Gb SD card which I will use in the S2 without the CF in the camera. This will make downloading the files on my MBP easier, since I won't need an extra card reader for the SD.

    Thanks again,

    Peter

What a wonderful forum this is! I had the same issue, while using parallel on my S2 shooting DNG only, the SD card stayed empty …
A Google search pointed me to this thread, problem solved. That is to say I'm glad I found out it's not my S2 or me doing something wrong, but I find the DNG to CF and JPG to SD a bit odd. Calling this ‘parallel' writing is rather confusing.

Any news wether this will be fixed in future firmware? I guess not since this thread was started two years ago.

    Anyway, thanks!
