Thanks David. I will re-install it.
Thanks for all the good info here.
Too bad I am living to far away to be your customer.

I just received my microprism screen , installed it right away… and found out that focusing with the screen leads to very slight backfocus while the AF works fine.
Any recommandations? Anybody with the same problem?
I can not really say how accurate manual focus worked before with the old screen. - March 9, 2012 at 8:18 am #2111
I agree Kurt.
Specially the S-league -even though there are great images-they are all about the same theme (fashion) and thats why I find it pretty boaring and monotone after some time. - March 8, 2012 at 3:11 pm #2108
Hi Georh,
interesting- while you are going from carrying 3 ro carrying 4 lenses, I now often just bring 2 lenses with the S2 in a smaller backback. It is harder to decided which lenses to carry but in the end if seems to often work pretty good with just 2 lenses.
Let me know what you found!

Josh – I like youe article and the images.
Also I dont feel so bad anymore using the S2 as my family and vacation P&S.
Istnt it great how simple this camera works?

I would say the D800 doesnt change anything about the S2.
The D800 is great for Nikon users who like to print big or crop a lot.
I still expect the S2 to have a bigger viewfinder, the images to show more detail and micro detail, a different behaviour regarding DOF and transition between focus and oof areas, better tonality and “better” (for my taste) colors, better contrast wide open.
And yes, I think one can see it even in screen sized images. And the D800 will still focus much faster than the S2, weight less, shoot faster frame rates, and cost less money.
S2 vs S3… Its not even announced, and when its announced it has to come to the market, and when its available it has to be debugged.
IMO life is to short to dream about future products instead of using real available and debugged products. - February 17, 2012 at 8:06 am #1982
I started with 35/70 and then asked myself the same question.
I then decided for the 120 but added the 180 not long ago.I would say it really depends – the 120 offers even shallower DOF and has the 1:2 “Macro” capability.
BUT – the 180 adds that little bit more reach and telelook which sometimes really helps. In my case I seem to more often use either 70 or if I need reach 180mm, and not so often the 120mm-even though it is a very fine if not the finest lens of the S-line.
If I had to do it again and if I was limited to just 3 lenses I would get 30 or 35, 70 and 180.
One thing about the 120 is that together with the 35 it makes a very nice 2 lens travel kit.
Conclusion (as you know anyways) – it depends on your needs. Optically they are both very very good – I would say the 120 a little “smoother” and the 180 a little more “pop”.

I only have experience the OLED problem and Leica has replaced mine for free.
While I would rate the Leica service overall very good and helpfull I have to agree that I find the quality control not allways sufficient and something Leica should work on IMO.
Regards and I hope your issued will be solved soon since the S2 is a terricic camera (system).
If I were you I would also try to get somebody resposible on the phoe and not go just through a written letter. For some reason I have very good experience and response and help when talking to Leica but not allways when writing/mailing.

Thank you -that sounds promising.
I have ordered one yesterday and this encourages me that it was the right decision.
I use AF a lot but sometimes correct manually, and insome scenery MF works better. It works well with the standard screen but I assume even better with the microprism. - January 17, 2012 at 10:40 am #1872
Those who have tried it-how do you like the new Microprism focusing screen ?
Do you plan to constantly use it instead of the standard screen?
Is it brighter than the standard screen?

thank you for the responses.
I have to say i finD the af slow but very accurate.
The Bokeh…I really like the one of the S2 but find the M-lenses bokeh at least as “good”-the S2 maybe a little more distingued, the M9 maybe a little more creamy (in case of the 50 Lux vs the 70mm S)
My favorite lens on the S2 is the 120 though-and yes, I find it to be perfect-sharp, contrasty and still smooth. - December 25, 2011 at 7:09 pm #1750
I have the original Leica grip but dont use it any more.
Maybe my hands are different but I can hold the M9 pretty good without any additional things – specially since I need 2 hands anyways (for focusing). Different with the x1 where I now use the grip all the time since I can hold it one handed if I want. The magnifier 1.25 I had used a lot but now its not so often on my M9…because I dont want to screw it on and off (for wide angle)…and after my lenses were calibrated I also get the focusing pretty accurate (even without a magn.)

fotografz;1456 wrote: It is a Camdapter handstrap:
I use one on each different camera I have. They come in basic black leather as shown on my S2 above, or a choice of some fun finishes (I use a Python Grey one on my Hasselblad H camera, which is also grey :-).
The base I use is the Arca Neoprene Adapter … a Quick-Release base plate that fits an Arca QR system. It has a “dual Lug” design that allows you to have a hand strap AND a shoulder strap. The Arca base allows use on any Arca based tripod or Mono-Pod head.
If you use a Really Right Stuff lever clamp for your QR, then the one to use is the Arca Plus Adapter.
Also available in Standard and Manfroto base plates.

Hi Marc,
by the way thanks for the tip – I have that strap on my camera for some months now and it works really good. Tom
