But I was also a bit disapointed about the lenses that were annonunced. I'm not a wide-angle guy, even if I may one day add the 24 mm.
But I expected something like a Summicron 100 or a Summicron 50, something that would combine extraordinary bokeh with decent sharpnes. I'm using actually the HaBla 100/2.2 that has a very pleasing bokeh but lacks sharpnes wide open, especially outside the center.
So a Summicron would have been apriciated. But maybe next year?
Did you try the 120 Macro? Yes, its a macro but I find it works very well for portraits.

9000 Euro – wow . . . maybe I can live with just either 30 or 35

I am curious how the 30-90 will look like (size wise) and how it will perform.

But in general it is about your preferences. For myself I do not want to go wider as 30mm on the S2. Even if a 24mm on the S2 is interesting. But if you like to have something wider. Wait for the 24. You could also get rid of the 35 and 70 to buy the 30-90mm.
More options make life more complicated. :p
30-90 sounds nice but I am afraid I would miss the speed of the primes. But maybe the 30-90 to replace the 35 and keepthe 70.
Is it know allready which widest f-stop the 30-90 will have? - September 12, 2012 at 8:52 pm #2917
Any further experience regarding 30 vs 35mm?
I now have 35-70-120-180. I never carry more than 3 lenses (in case of the S-system due to size/weight)
I do however like 21mm for on the M9 (=24mm on the S2)… so my theoretical ideal setup would be 24-35-70-180…but thats pretty heavy.
So maybe 30-70-180?
However 30 often feels like a compromise lens to me-not real super wide, but with a pretty large gap to the 70mm lens.
But owning the 35 as widest lens I often wish to have something a little wider. - July 27, 2012 at 2:30 pm #2774

The omission of the 50 Summarit was a simple oversight on my part when setting up the poll. I've fixed it and added the option.
The Summarit is certainly no slouch of a lens. As I tell people who are new to Leica, there are no bad Leica lenses.I'm intrigued by your findings that the 50 Summarit offers more DOF than the 50 Lux ASPH at equivalent apertures. Optical physics should dictate that the DOF would be the same on any 50mm lens on the same camera. Looks like Josh and I have some testing to do on Monday. 🙂
….Again, sorry for omitting the 50 Summarit from the poll and thanks for participating.David
David- I once compare a Noctilux 1.0 and a Summilux asph and a Summicron and also had the impression that there are slight differences in DOF even at comparable f-stops.

I also can confirm very good service from Solms.

I also use the split screen. I do like it however when shooting wide open with such high resolution the AF seems still more accurate than my eyes. However if there are subjects which are difficult for AF the split screen is nice.
I know many would disagree but besides my Nikons the S2 is the most accurate autofocusing camera I have used long time.
Now with the split screen it is even better – great AF and also great MF when needed.
On the other sie I found manual focus with the standard screen pretty good too. - May 27, 2012 at 10:02 pm #2459
Thanks David for the interesting review about the M9M and the 50 APO.
I believe the images do have a special look. But I am not yet convinced that the difference is clear enough to convince me to dig in. I am also a bit “afraid” that I could regret buying a M9M after the M10 is announced.
While I am not yet decided about the M9M I am pretty sure to not get the 50/2.0APO.
I am very happy with the character and the “special effects” of the Noctilux 0.95, which I like much better than I had expected before.
If I want to get max. Sharpness and IQ (in technical terms) then I think its a little contradiction to give the size factor (in cas of the 50/2.0 APO) so much priority. My opinion might be different if I would not also use the S2-system, which would be my choice for max (technical) IQ.

Please ask to delay the S3 announcement for at least 1.5 years.
I dont have enough money yet and still want to feel like owning the latest and greatest.
Thanks 😉I think reliability and quality control of the S2 bodies are the factors which need improvement now.

The only way I am successfull is to prefocus on a certain point where I expect the subject to come and then press the shutter once the subject reaches this point.
Its still a hit and miss.
Some time ago I have used my D700 again and as much as I love the S2 for this type of images the continues AF of the Nikon is a releaf. - March 19, 2012 at 3:08 pm #2150
yes, my congrats as well Georg.

Just to follow up. I reinstalled twice and its the same problem.
Then I put in the old focusing screen and it turns out that it shows the same behaviour (just more difficult to realized because there is no split line)What I allways thought would be an AF more precise than my eyes seems to be a screen holder which is not in its totally accurate position.
Looks like a trip to Solms for my S2 ;( - March 13, 2012 at 1:02 pm #2125
Thanks David for the info. Sounds good. As soon as I find some time I will probably upgrade.

David and Josh… your presets need to be reworked for this iteration of LR. The old ones give bizarre results.
substantial improvement in which regard?
