Well done David. Samantha is a terrific model. The 120mm is perfectly suited for this type of photography and therefore, the CS version would be ideal. It's a good thing I don't do this type of photography because I would have to buy a 120mm CS.

I set the clipping warning limits in firmware to something more conservative like 5 and 250 just to give me a clue when I am close to the limits. Sometimes, this is too conservative and I blow the limits intentionally. The highlight limits are the most difficult to control in my opinion.
I don't know if a histogram based on the raw image would make a difference. It may be worth testing with a setup to shoot the same scene with one shot going to a card and another shot to Lightroom. Then, compare the histograms.

I appreciate your point of view Marc. It's good to know I am not the only that has issues with the standard print/frame sizes.
Back in my Canon 5D days I got a Brightscreen split image focusing screen with 8×10 crop lines to help me compose properly for the print. It was very frustrating every time I looked through the viewfinder and saw how much of the image I was loosing and how much it constrained the composition.
I naturally prefer the wider FOV of the 3:2 format and I know others who prefer the FOV of the 4:3 format. What I don't know is whether they prefer the 4:3 format because it is closer to the standard print sizes or if that is what suits their eye.

…but, yes, I see your point. Although, for wedding album two-page spreads, I'd assume that wider aspect ratio is actually better (12×24).
You make a good point about the album. In fact, I pre-purchased an album sample package at PhotoPlus. I figure large albums will be a very cost effective way of displaying and storing printed work. I simply don't have enough wall space to display many prints and framing is expensive. You can get large multi-page album for about the cost of framing one 20″ x 30″ print.
Sorry for getting off topic here.

Thank you for the crop comparisons Marc. You bring up a good point about cropping to the standard print sizes. However, I have never learned or understood why the standard print sizes are what they are. Those print sizes even require some cropping of 4:3 ratio originals. It drives me nuts as I much prefer the wider 3:2 aspect ratio. It just seems more natural to my eye.

Congratulations on getting your new S2 Sébastien. You have good reason to be happy. The S2 is a wonderful camera as I am sure you are already discovering.

I also expected a 30mm T/S sooner rather than later. I don't recall where that lens now falls in Leica's S lens road map. Hopefully, David Farkas can shed some light on this. I know he talked with the S product managers at length while at Photo Plus.
The 30mm beter suits my needs for landscape photography and based on a preliminary shoot with the lens I know I want one. The problem is I already have the 35mm and would sell it to get the 30mm (don't need both). To complicate matters more, I plan to get the 30mm – 90mm zoom as soon as it comes out and would ditch the fixed focal length 35/30mm. So that makes it much more difficult to justify selling the 35mm now and getting the 30mm for the period from now until the zoom comes out. I haven't looked into the market value of used S lens, but I am sure it would cost me a few thousand dollars to make the double switch I described about.

Pete Walentin;1188 wrote: I have the screen since yesterday in the camera and it is amazing. It feels like back in good old non-AF SLR days. I am amazed how precise the screen works. Focusing manually is so smooth, even when you have something far far away the screen supports excellent focusing abilities. On top of this when using AF it shows you perfectly if the spot you want to have in focus, is in focus.
Go get it. 🙂
I am jealous Pete. David Farkas's will be getting more than one call I suspect.

That could be an expensive trip. Leica's trade-up program for CS lenses will make it more tolerable.

rgk, I don't understand why you are perplexed. I was simply thanking Leica for a job well done. I appreciated their efforts and felt compelled to thank them for their hard work in putting on the studio event. They went out of their way to provide current and prospective customers with a venue where they could use their products in a controlled environment with recognized experts and, more importantly, provide an opportunity to talk directly with the product managers from Leica Germany. For me, the interaction with the Leica personnel was invaluable. It was much more personal and direct than anything I have experienced from any other vendor. I felt as if Leica truly appreciated me as a customer and were genuinely interested in my comments as a user. The studio event would have been the perfect opportunity for you discuss your concerns about S2 customer service directly with those responsible. My experience with S2 customer service has been very good.
While one may expect a company to put on an event of this nature, that is not to say one should take it for granted. You rightfully state that Leica was simply acting in its best interest in hosting this event. I would add that they were also acting in my best interest as well (as an S2 owner) by working to expand the S2 customer base and listening to customer feedback. It's all good.
Josh Lehrer and David Farkas at Dale Photo and Digital are excellent and know Leica products extremely well. They're my go to dealer for a few years now.

I came across the Manfrotto Lino pro vest at Photo Plus last week and it looks pretty interesting. It has a mesh back and is a well thought out design. My only problem is that is only comes in black which looks great, but absorbs too much heat in summer.

Thank you David. This was a long exposure of 45 seconds which helped smooth out the water as well. The clouds were low and reflecting the city lights (e.g, sodium vapor).

Although I have never been there, I have seen hundred of photos of this place over the years. This set of photos is excellent in the way you captured the light, colors, and textures. I am particularly fond of 1 and 2.
How did you handle the relatively shallow depth of field of the S2 in these images?
