• I figured it was time for me to show some of my photos especially since I had to leave early on Sunday and missed the slide show.

    First morning sunrise.

    Jack,

You should have joined us on the Everglades trip. It was the perfect location for the 24mm. I gotta get one.

  • Marc,

I had this happen on my S2 and Leica Germany used one of my DNG files to create a custom firmware. Also, future firmware updates do not affect the custom firmware.

Jack, you are making the 24mm look pretty darn good.

This image has a erie feeling to it. I like it.

  • One more from last Sunday. I seems as if my mind was in a symmetrical mood that day. The main subject is centered in both photos I have posted from that day and it was intentional. I tried other compositions but the centered ones worked best in my opinion.

This photo was one of my favorites from the set.

    Jack,

I have another photo from this walk I will post as soon as I get in a hotel with decent Internet. It is so bad at tonight's hotel I gave up and switched to my iPad using cellular data.

  • Thank you for the complements guys.

The national park service had closed the road to this location so my daughter and I decided to walk there. I had stopped to take a photo on the way to this location when another photographer came walking up and we made small talk about the falling snow and beauty of the place. He was new to the area so I…[Read more]

  • Unfortunately, I got to experience some winter weather too this weekend. I much preferred the warm south Florida climate from the weekend prior. At least I was out shooting so it isn't all bad.

  • Constable and Jack, these photos make me cold just to look at them. It is cold here in Tennessee so unfortunately I can relate to the photos. I visited south Florida last weekend and I really miss the warm sunshine. Plus, it was great to see David Farkas, David K., Roger, and Josh. Wish I had more time there.

The text below was copied from my voucher.

“You can trade up your S lens, with this voucher, at any time up to 30th September 2011, via the authorised Leica S dealer from whom you originally purchased it. They will exchange your current lens for a lens of same focal length but with a central shutter. The original purchase price of your lens…[Read more]

  • Scott, I like the series. They provide a more personal viewpoint of the racing scene. The thin DOF works well in most cases, but it can be tough to get in the correct place with a rangefinder. For example, in the last photo the plane of focus is on the neck instead of the eyes unless that was intentional.

  • Mark Gowin replied to the topic Leica Vario-Elmar-S 30-90 mm in the forum S Lenses 12 years ago

Fortunately, the camera and lens combination are smart enough to know when you are wanting to shoot at the wide-open aperture. For example, if you are at f3.5 with the lens zoomed to 30mm, then zoom to 90mm the aperture goes to f5.6, but when you zoom back to 30mm the aperture goes back to f3.5 just as it should.

Andy, congratulations on getting the 30-90mm. That lens is at the top of my purchase list. It is a very flexible focal range and has the typical Leica S character – sharp with excellent OOF rendering.

The little time I spent demoing the lens lead me to the conclusion that the lens hood may not be of much value when the lens is at the mid to…[Read more]

Very nice image Joe. Congrats on getting the new S. I have seen your work on getDPI with other cameras in the past. You will do well with the S. I look forward to seeing more.

Josh, please keep your thoughts and discoveries about the new S coming – even if it is a bit frustrating that I don't have one (yet).

  • Mark Gowin replied to the topic Monochrom in Miami in the forum M Monochrom 12 years ago

I had the pleasure of using a Mono for a couple of hours in NYC. I can imagine how much fun you had making these images. It is a remarkable camera and its high ISO performance creates image making possibilities that were previously not possible with a rangefinder.

  • That is pretty cool. I can see that feature of the new S as being very beneficial. Of course there are a lot more improvements in the new S that are very beneficial. I wouldn't trade up for just the GPS, but the sum total of the new features makes it tempting.

Alex, thank you for sharing the images. ISO 1600 looks pretty good to me and cleans up nicely if desired. I look forward to seeing more images from the 30-90mm. I had a chance to try a prototype at PhotoPlus and I was impressed with the image quality and out of focus rendering of the few test shots I was able to get.
