Leica M, Leica S, Leica CompactOfflineA few more images, this time from Day Three:
Leica S2 with 180mm, 1/90 sec at f/8
Leica S2 with 70mm, 3 sec at f/9.5 with Kenko Variable NDX filter
Leica S2 with Schneider Apo-Digital 120mm f/5.6 Tilt Shift lens, 1/180 sec at f/5.6. I wanted to play with this lens' tilt and shift. This was shot wide open with the plane of focus down the first 1/3 of the image or so. This is a very unique lens that we just added to our inventory, so expect more shots soon, along with comparisons to other 120mm lenses available for the S2 currently. - October 12, 2011 at 8:54 pm #1119Josh LehrerLegendary MemberJoin Date: Aug 2014Posts: 233Currently using:
Leica M, Leica S, Leica CompactOfflineTwo images from the second day of shooting. Amazing how fast the light changes.
Leica S2 with 70mm lens, 4 sec at f/11 with Kenko Variable NDX Filter
Leica S2 with 70mm lens, 1/4 sec at f/11 with Kenko Variable NDX FilterThis was my first time using the Kenko Variable NDX filter, which allows precise ND control from 1.3 to 10 stops. Extremely useful for slowing down your shutter speeds in bright light. The filter can be fine-tuned to match just about any shutter speed I selected.

Leica M, Leica S, Leica CompactOfflineIt functions identical to the Leica adapter that was recently released, other than being less expensive.

The adapter I used is our Leica S2-Mamiya Mount lens adapter. It works will all Mamiya 645 manual focus lenses. Along with the Schneider, we like to use the Mamiya 80mm f/1.9 as well.

From here they look like star trails. Have you tried photographing a dark wall or something similar where you can eliminate all other variables? I have never seen an issue like this on the S2. Also, have you verified that your firmware is updated?

Can you post a sample image showing the problem you are experiencing? The above comments are correct, one of Leica's firmware updates for the S2 this year increased the maximum shutter speed of the S2 from 32 seconds to 125 seconds. What firmware version do you currently have installed?

Leica M, Leica S, Leica CompactOfflineThis setup is a custom-built tilt-shift bellows system for Rollei SL66 lenses. We have this system made to order, so if it is an item of interest, feel free to contact me and I would be happy to discuss details further.
The Rollei SL66 lenses can be found on the web, and we can also source lenses to pair with our custom adapter should one be interested. I have yet to try the Mamiya system, but we have successfully used Rollei SL66 lenses as wide as 40mm with this adapter, and maintained infinity focus.

I tend to add more shadow contrast to the S2 because the files tend to be a bit flatter out of camera due to the increased dynamic range that the files have compared to the M9, which I find has excellent contrast straight out of the camera. I always prefer slight overexposure when shooting with the S2, yet another reason for me to add a bit more shadow contrast.
I do not have a similar preset for the M9, but I am sure that I could make one for you. I will post it here once it is created.
As for clarity, I tend to keep it under 10. Its primary function is to add mid tone contrast, and while I have not experimented to see if it adds any sharpening, my personal taste has always been minimal clarity and then separately adjusting my sharpness. I also find that too much clarity slightly desaturates the mid tone areas of the images as well.
If you create an S2 preset with added clarity that creates a look that you like, I would certainly suggest posting it in this thread for myself and other users to experiment with.

You are correct, I was mistaken, you cannot re-install the same version of the firmware on the S2 from my experience. Another option might be to downgrade the firmware to the previous version, then upgrade again. I can email you the previous version if you cannot find it online.

The S2 firmware update process takes 3-5 minutes, so if it is only lasting a few seconds, it is possible that the firmware file itself is corrupt. I might try re-downloading it from Leica's website, re-formatting the memory card, and give the process another try.
