There is absolutely no difference. Given that there are a few factual inaccuracies in the article, I would be careful taking too much of it very seriously.

    Andyc:

Well first off I am jealous that you have received an adapter before any of us here in the US! My first question would be, have you updated your Leica S2 body to the latest firmware? This new firmware, version 1.0.3.3 is designed to allow the S2 to work properly with the new adapter. You can find a link to that here:

If that still doesn't fix it, let me know.

I tested this here. When the camera is set to shoot Parallel, it will not record DNG images to the SD card. This is true when a CF card is also installed, or when an SD card is in the camera by itself. If you set the camera to JPEG only as an experiment, you can shoot to the SD card by itself even if the camera is in Parallel, but if you try to set the camera to DNG+JPEG while set the Parallel, the S2 will automatically change the mode to Sequential when it does not detect a CF card.

My recommendation is never to set your camera to DNG only and Parallel at the same time when you only have an SD card in the body…at least until Leica is made aware of this issue and fixes it.

Could be a corrupt card. I've yet to see any camera-related memory card issues with the S2 over the past 2 years so it would be surprising to see one now. Have you tried a different SD card?

That is a nice looking bag, could you perhaps show a photo of all the gear inside and how it all fits?

From what I understand there are no supply issues with Leica M9 sensors. The cameras are still available brand new and we can always order more from Leica when needed.

Leica is all about unique products that are peerless, and I think the new Leica M Monochrom fits that perfectly. Of course they understand it won't be the volume seller so that puts the price point a bit higher.

Leica never planned on launching an M10 today, that should hopefully be something we see at Photokina this year!

So I suppose I respectfully disagree that this is a waste of time. The M9 has been hugely successful for Leica, and they have a clear understanding of the customer base. Thousands of M users came from shooting black and white film and value a beautiful, natural black and white image, and now have the ability to shoot the finest black and white photographs possible with a 35mm sized sensor.

I think the Leica M Monochrom will be a smashing success, and offer breathtaking image quality and the truest, purest black and white shooting experience this side of Tri-X.

It sounds like you have a bad battery to me. That is a problem I have seen before, where the battery shows that it has some charge remaining but the camera refuses to stay on. At first I thought it was a camera issue but after trying a new battery, I realized it was a defective battery. Send it my way and I will replace it!

Ornello, as someone who went through an excellent photography program at the Rochester Institute of Technology, I can say that none of my professors were “techno-files”, they were talented, working photographers in a wide variety of fields, from photojournalism to high-end commercial photography. From my experience, many photography professors are actually quite the opposite of a techno-file and focus their energy on encouraging students to be passionate about their craft.

    Just my two cents.

I used the Kenko NDX Variable ND filter on our New England Fall Foliage workshop with excellent results. Check out this thread for a few images.

I was relatively close to most of the cars, no more than 6-8 feet away. I have had very good results using the S2's auto focus. A trick I often use (in combination with rear-button focusing) is to de-focus the lens slightly using the focus ring then allow the camera to refocus. My in-focus rate for the type of photography I talk about in this post is extremely high, usually 100% or near it.

Great shots Mark! I'm impressed that you were able to get so close to get such good results using the 50mm.

    Andy:

While I cannot be exactly sure why you had this particular problem, I can say from experience that the S2, and most of the cameras I have owned in fact, are very reliable…but there will always be variability. The S2 is a hand built camera, and while Leica's QC is good, they are not perfect. What matters now is how Leica Service handles the situation, and that they deliver your camera back to you in a timely manner.

Looking forward to a speedy resolution for your concerns!

    Josh
