Pretty impressive that you were able to recover the shadows well enough to show the colors in the glass windows.

Congratulations Constable and Rolophoto. I am still very happy with my S2, but I would love to get the new S. Leica did a great job with the improvements from the S2 to new S.

Thank you for the heads up Al. I certainly don't need another sensor cleaning disaster.

Mark Gowin replied to the topic Zoom and 24 mm in the forum S Lenses 11 years, 12 months ago
I had the pleasure of shooting a few frames with the zoom and 24mm at PhotoPlus. Unfortunately, I can't share my photos since the lens were prototypes. I have been wanting the 30-90mm zoom ever since the S system was announced. Needless to say, I had high expectations for that lens and it didn't disappoint. The images have the same S lens…[Read more]

For what it's worth, Leica has new version of its shuttle software for shooting tethered which should be released soon. I saw it in action at the Leica studio event at PhotoPlus about a month ago. I don't know when it will be available for S2 owners to download and I don't know if it offers any performance improvement over the current version.…[Read more]

Mark Gowin replied to the topic How bad is the curvature of field in the 70mm S lens? in the forum S Lenses 12 years ago
I agree Stuart. Leica has always handled my few equipment issues very fairly. I can honestly say, I will continue to be a Leica customer largely because the manner in which they have resolved issues and treated me over the years. A company can make the best products in the world, but that is worthless to me if they don't stand behind it.…[Read more]

I will add that as the ISO is increased the max shutter speed decreases.

Thank you all for the kind words. I must admit I really enjoyed my brief time photographing the models and would like to do more of it. I think most of the talent showing in theses photos is from the model. I didn't have to do anything but compose and fire shutter.
Jack, the first photo is my favorite as well and I do want to print it large…[Read more]

Mark Gowin replied to the topic The new MAX 24 MP sensor in the forum Leica M 12 years ago
I don't know how old the news is, but I definitely see it as good news. I am glad to see Leica on the forefront of this technology. I handled the new M at PhotoPlus last week and to no surprise it felt exactly like an M which is a great thing.
I can't wait to see the image quality from this new sensor. Hopefully, we won't have to wait too…[Read more]

Mark Gowin replied to the topic Where are the CS lenses? in the forum S Lenses 12 years, 1 month ago
Al,
I believe David Farkas has checked into this and confirmed that the upgrades are available on purchases after the Sept 20, 2010 date and up until the CS lenses become available or something like that. Hopefully, David can clarify. I too have a lens purchase after that date which I hope is upgradable.

Mark Gowin replied to the topic Impressions of the new 24 and 30-90 from Photokina in the forum S Lenses 12 years, 1 month ago
THe hood does appear to be rather short and wide so I don't see how it can be very effective at 90mm especially since it appears to be attached to the end of the extending portion of the lens barrel.
If it were attached at the non-moving portion of the lens and the lens extends for the wider angle focal lengths and is fully retracted for…[Read more]

The detail in this shot is amazing. Zoomed in, you can really appreciate all the elements in the photo: the vibrant aqua-blue stream, the orange and red patterning in the rock formations, the little green trees – and all so crisp and clear!
I do think, however, some further post-processing could give this shot a little more pop. Perhaps some…[Read more]

Mark Gowin replied to the topic And here we go. The NEW S2! in the forum Leica S 12 years, 2 months ago
Good point David. Reading your report of the S improvements reminded me of some conversations and requests I have made to the Leica staff.
Question, is focus bracketing an option in the new S? If not, then forewarn Stephan that I will be asking him about it again at PhotoPlus. 🙂

Mark Gowin replied to the topic And here we go. The NEW S2! in the forum Leica S 12 years, 2 months ago
The new S has a lot of hardware changes (e.g., new sensor board, new AF module) as well as changes in control (joystick) and menus so I don't know how much firmware love us S2 guys will be seeing. I believe still room to improve the S2 via a firmware update. Maybe the guys at Leica will have some time for S2 firmware now that the new S has been introduced.
