Leica M, Leica S, Leica CLOfflineBack in August, I said I would return to this location with the S and reshoot the scene.
As I did, I realized it would be a better diptych than triptych.Jack - January 22, 2015 at 8:04 pm #11055Jack MacDEstablished MemberUSA, St. Louis, MO and Phoenix, AZJoin Date: Jun 2011Posts: 367Currently using:
Leica M, Leica S, Leica CLOfflineWell I would like a truly long lens, well beyond 200mm equiv. I could use 400 to 600mm equiv.
In the meantime, I appreciate my new wide zoom which has no purple in high contrast. See image.

Leica M, Leica S, Leica CLOfflineMarc,
I followed your lead and just got the S 006 from Josh at Leica Miami.
The three year platinum like warranty was the clincher, vs one year with the S-E
But so was the price now that the 007 has been announced and kept 006 prices down. Not sure that there are many left to be had in the US at this point.
The 006 is all around crisper to handle and shoot. the AF is allowing me to switch back to the regular view screen.
So thanks for the discussion. Let's see how long I can keep it before the 007 comesJack - October 23, 2014 at 4:57 pm #10166Jack MacDEstablished MemberUSA, St. Louis, MO and Phoenix, AZJoin Date: Jun 2011Posts: 367Currently using:
Leica M, Leica S, Leica CLOfflineThis little video of a 120mm lens focusing before and after the update suggest there is one less step of searching now.
The sound tells the story a bit clearer than the embarrassingly fuzzy image.Attachments:

Leica M, Leica S, Leica CLOfflineI have a director/cine friend who has been encouraging me to always shoot video on my still landscape shots, just to provide it to video stock agencies. Haven't bothered in the past, but might with 4K on the 007. I like 4K over HD as it is a bit of future proofing. As a presentation format, I need to be inspired by seeing someone else's creative ideas first. I can achieve quite a bit of movement and cropping within a good slideshow program with a still shot out of the S.

Leica M, Leica S, Leica CLOfflineDavid,
Thanks for your advice.
There is no planned triptych here, as the images will be on individual pages in a book.
But you are right, if there was one, I would find a way.
The naming of the images occurs because I am uploading the files to my website first.
Then I do a screen save from that website, and the website gives them the strange names.
Am I right that there is now a limit on the size of a image uploaded?Jack - September 28, 2014 at 6:22 pm #9916Jack MacDEstablished MemberUSA, St. Louis, MO and Phoenix, AZJoin Date: Jun 2011Posts: 367Currently using:
Leica M, Leica S, Leica CLOfflineAnd the full S
Forgive me, as the ability to upload more than one image is an issue for me.

Leica M, Leica S, Leica CLOfflineDavid,
I have now lived with your new format awhile.
1. I think your features of NEws Reviews and Field Tests are handled much better than before.
If I send someone to the RedDot it appears as a better sourced of Leica info than anywhere else.
Congratulations.2. The Forum just takes getting used to it.
Given that over the last three years, you don't have as much posting as other forums, you are wise to make the News and Reviews more prominent.
Your postings are fewer because for the most part, users are asking questions and getting answers. Your forum thankfully does not have the fights that occur on some other forums.
I appreciate that the sellers of phones and crap have not found their way onto your new forum yet. Net, the site is better, and the reduced emphasis on the forums is a smart business decision.Jack - September 20, 2014 at 6:59 pm #9790Jack MacDEstablished MemberUSA, St. Louis, MO and Phoenix, AZJoin Date: Jun 2011Posts: 367Currently using:
Leica M, Leica S, Leica CLOfflineTo answer one of my question, I now see the 4K video is sized just about super 35. So the lens factor is 2. A 120 will look as 240mm or 200 in 35mm equivalents. A 24 will not be 19mm but 38mm in 35mm equivalents. Some are already suggesting that a special wide angle will be useful.

Leica M, Leica S, Leica CLOfflineJosh,
A good reply.
Yes I wanted higher resolution, but given that I have already sold enlargements up to 7.5 feet by 5 feet with a S2, the desire for more pixels is a desire not a requirement. Turns out that 45″x30″ is the normal upper limit of an enlargement, not because of resolution, but because any larger is a challenge to physically have a photo frame properly. At that size craft means more than higher resolution. Matte sizes make going bigger than 45″x30″ problematic. And yes, even a mere doubling of resolution I believe is hard to discern when actually viewing a print. So if I really have to have that extra resolution, switching systems to get a 50 res CMOS, is probably not worth it. I should wait another two years and get the 100 res? I suspect that all who had to have resolution to the max skipped the Leica in the first place, and were already at Phase. What do I gain from an 007? I agree higher iso is probably going to be more useful than increased resolution. But I wanted both.
For those who say, I don't want video, I can assure you wedding photographers do. I am a landscape and architecture photographer, and a friend of mine who shoots video said I was missing an opportunity to capture stock video whenever I shoot. Yes, I could capture stock video with a separate video camera, but I will prefer to do that with one system. Leica said they has customers who were asking for video, and I believe them. I see this competing with a RED in some ways. http://www.red.com/store/cameras?f=BAh7B0kiDWNhdGVnb3J5BjoGRUZbBkkiDENBTUVSQVMGOwBGSSILY2FtZXJhBjsARlsGSSIQRVBJQyBEUkFHT04GOwBU
Josh, did David even see any video played back on an 007? I understand that the HD would be 16×9 and use the full width of the sensor, but then there are more pixels than needed. Does it use them or throw them away? And for a 4K it sounds like it is a crop down of the sensor, yes?
David, please point us to video details soon.Clearly, Leica does not need more resolution to produce great video, which would argue for keeping the sensor resolution as is.

Leica M, Leica S, Leica CLOfflineYes, I updated fine thanks.
The instructions say double click the zip file, but apparently that was not necessary to do, as the computer automatically behind the scenes, opened to the final file.Jack
