• In reply to: David Farkas wrote a new post, Leica Announces Fix for S-Lens Focus Motors Today, Leica has issued an official statement regarding the focus motor issue that has plagued S-Lenses for the last year or so. After engineering a new motor assembly, the QA team had to make absolutely sure that […] View

I appreciate that this post is 2 years old. I recently reactivated my membership here and was looking for information on lenses where the AF motor fail occurred. I have two lenses, one that failed and one that has not and is 4.5 years old. I am in Australia and repairs through the national distributor go to Wetzlar of course. I was considering the…[Read more]

  • Hi Mark. That scratch would certainly make your eyes water.
I suggest that you take a look for another lens of the same model in the usual places rather than contemplate repairs which could potentially approach the value of a used lens. In my experience with that particular lens they can be under-appreciated/valued on the used market despite…[Read more]

Thank you very much for that Josh. Yes I was aware of the detail of the Hasselblad system. Their division head described a further update to True Focus II in their new H5D range.
I only had an opportunity to shoot a (casual) 40 frames or so with the S2 over a lunch with a national Leica rep and saw no errors when I shot everything wide open. So…[Read more]

Hi, my nearest S dealer is many hundreds of miles away and there is no local exposure /knowledge on S at all (only 4 million people in my state and I think just 2 or 3 actual dealers in a country of 22 million people). It's hard enough with the M system which I am now using.
Can anyone provide or point me to detail on the changes to the AF…[Read more]

  • Hi Arif. I have the M9 not the S2. However similar artefacts have been rarely reported with the M8 and M9. In those instances it appears to be a problem with the sensor and its supporting electronics. It may only be evident in particular conditions (as you noted).
The fix in those cases has been usually warranty priority repair by replacing the…[Read more]

  • That rumour doesn't make sense for me either. I would not be surprised if the grey M9 option just fades away but that is because the chrome M9-P option has proven to be so popular. I don't see why the black paint M9 can't continue to co-exist with the M9-P options though since the internals of course are identical.
    Of course everything may…[Read more]
