Today for the first time I tried to change my avatar. Whoa! To get my head into the frame, I had to start with a given size, say 960 x 1280, then change the canvas size to 1280 x 1920 (the 960 x 1280 image now floating in the center of the larger canvas), then let the forum software crop it to the square format. I've had years to learn these workarounds for this kind of stuff, but I pity others who don't have the means or time to do them.

In the user profile, Street Photogrpahy is misspelled. The new D-Lux is also missing as a camera choice.

Thanks – besides the usual difficulties, getting such favorable lighting was due to someone opening a skylight or windows of some kind, and there were the extreme contrasts from that. But I thought the D-Lux handled it very well.

I often have difficulty with these close-ups in getting spiders and other critters in focus over the whole body (or most of it).

Bob, I won't disagree that you can clean the sensor very well, but based on everything I've seen and read, it won't stay perfectly clean for a full shoot unless you don't change lenses. Assuming of course the entire interior is spotless along with the sensor. I'd like to hear how it goes when the OP gets it where he wants it and then goes to work.

BTW, I've never felt the need to do anything except clone out spots the simplest way, since any that occur (assuming there aren't a huge number of spots) over top of texture/detail are usually invisible.

Edit: But if I were doing a tabletop copy of Her Majesty's jewel collection, or an original Rembrant etc., then I'd worry about the small stuff.

I didn't try cleaning the ‘S', but when I cleaned the Monochrom, after using a blower, a lot of stuff just wouldn't clean up. My inquiries got me the following advice: “Send to Leica for cleaning – the M series shutter etc. throws a lot of stuff onto the sensor” – quote approximate. The thing is, unless you're already an expert in cleaning those sensors, you're likely to be disappointed. I agree that the hit and miss approach is really painful and slow, but unless you have a “clean room” to work in, changing lenses will bring in more dust.

I take it you want the sensor to be so clean that no spots will show when viewing a blank sky or wall at 100 percent. I don't see that being possible with a camera having moving parts inside, shutter, mirror, whatever. You can vacuum and get the sensor perfect, but get to work and change one lens, and dust will re-enter. I got the M clean enough, then just monitored it occasionally afterward to keep the spots within reason for post processing fixups.

But maybe a miracle exists anyway…

I've found that shooting a plain blue sky, or plain white sky possibly, then viewing at 100 percent, you can see even the smallest dust.

You have a big ol' sensor spot to the right of the rightmost building, and a few smaller spots. Excellent photos though!!

I sent a request for a detailed comparison of the S typ 007 and the S-E (both new models I presume). Given the astounding price difference, there must be significant compromises with the S-E, and I'd like to see the complete list.

I've been using many flash memory cards since 1994. In the mid-2000's I had a couple of corrupted cards and a few people I knew also had corrupted cards – compact flash and SD cards. All of those I recovered with Windows 98, since the Windows NT/2000/XP and newer O/S versions (as well as Mac) could not read those cards.

Since then I've lost a couple of cheap off-brand USB flash drives, but I wasn't using those for anything important. In the past 2 years I've had several failures of ‘exFAT' format cards, especially the 128 gb MicroSD cards from Sandisk. Name brand SD cards formatted for FAT32 have been totally reliable.

So in making comparisons of S and T, any general impressions other than resolution?

    Well said.

The T firmware update was somewhat scary. I followed the instructions down to ‘Restart the camera', which didn't say how to restart the camera, and that's especially significant given the prior warnings to NOT TURN OFF the camera. So I took the big chance to turn it off after the restart screen appeared, and watched it turn on, and being the patient sort, I waited to see if something else would happen. And wouldn't you know it, it started doing a lens update (18-56), which wasn't described anywhere that I saw.

“My original account is dead, and the Password Reset Emails do not work. Something is wrong with the software, and I’m thinking a lot of members lost their accounts with the software changeover.”

Besides not having a Quote button I can find, it would seem that you're right, since the system behind the forum is some kind of WordPress system, and not the former software.
