Thanks – every time I pop off the lens cap and look at that amazing f1.4 lens, I wonder if it would be possible for Leica to top that one someday.

Wow – it took me a bit to find it – B&H Photo, July 8th, $159.

Correction to prior post: I don't think the formatting is the fault of the display software here, since the file apparently isn't stored here. But although it's an extra step and not ideally convenient, you can right-click the image and save it to your computer, then double-click the saved file on your computer and your computer will fit it to the screen.

That's the big problem with a lot of forums – the original source (my primitive website) auto-fits the image to whatever screen you have, but most forums prefer the files to be stored on the forum, then they don't auto-resize.

I really like the G-Star Raw – the extras like the wrist strap and carry case I really use, and they account for a lot of that difference.

    Positives
    ———-

Leica experience. Unboxing the camera and holding it is impressive. I don't think I would have found that especially important at one time – now I do.

Manual operation, when manual operation isn't so much extra work as it is having a direct and positive control of the camera. The lens barrel, with focus and zoom rings is a case in point.

Image quality. Putting aside any particular efforts and techniques involved in acquiring the image, the image is the end result and speaks for itself.

    Not so positives
    ——————

In my opinion a rugged wrist strap is a necessity, and when the camera is not in hand, the only strap needed is the shoulder strap attached to the carry case. Also in my opinion, the X Vario is more of a consumer camera than a working professional photographer's camera, and carry case options should include cases that look unobtrusive in social gatherings (or as unobtrusive as possible).

    Firmware

    Autofocus speed.
    Video quality.

I've never seen a composition like that – I wonder if this sort of thing is common, getting really unique views from across the water like that. Amazing in any event.

When the X1 was introduced on 9th Sept. 2009, Leica offered a brochure suggesting, or perhaps stating clearly (cannot remember) that images from the fashion shoot in that brochure were made with the X1. And so here for the first time since then, to my eyes anyway, is a real-life collection of comparable images with the X2. And the quality of these validate the X2 as a first-rate shooter, for image quality at the least.

I first saw this question a couple of months ago, but I wasn't aware of any lack of interest in the D-Lux series, particularly the latest edition, the D-Lux6. But after some research and having purchased the D-Lux6 myself, here's my guess (and it's just personal speculation, since I'm not connected to any dealers or manufacturers):

The recent D-Lux cameras are manufactured for Leica, in whole or in part, by Panasonic. Panasonic also sells a Panasonic equivalent, without certain extras such as Lightroom, for a lower price. In the case of the D-Lux6, Panasonic's camera equivalent is the LX7.

For some reason, a couple months ago shortly after the release of their LX7 camera, some of Panasonic's retailers began selling LX7's for nearly 40 percent off of the retail price. It may have had something to do with rumors that Panasonic was replacing the LX7 with another camera, perhaps the LF1, although the LF1 is a very different camera from the LX7.

In any case, some people who are familiar with the relationship between Leica's D-Lux series and Panasonic's LX series got to thinking that changes were coming for the D-Lux series, or maybe just the D-Lux6, and so they held off purchasing new cameras until the dust settled. So here I am these months later, and nothing has changed. I'm completely happy with my D-Lux6 camera.

I ordered mine – I hope it gets shipped right away. I'd grovel some, if that would help.
