The USS Yorktown is anchored there, with more WW2 ships and a submarine behind it. They're great for a tour.
The alligator in the pond loves pets, all sizes included, so a tough German Shepherd or Pitbull is just another lunch.

This is a place I visit on the Charleston County shoreline. The pond usually has a resident alligator, courtesy of Bulls Island nearby. There's a light fog in the background.

This is JPEG only, shot through a plate-glass window, with some unavoidable reflections even though the lens barrel was squarely in contact with the window glass. So, a little cloning to remove the reflections….
Leica Q, f5.6, 1/2 second handheld-braced, ISO 200.

This image required significant perspective correction, and then cropping, so may look a bit ragged. Shot as JPEG only.

I still have the original 1.0 firmware. The lens makes a noise, which I wouldn't say is humming because there's no particular tone, just the noise. With OIS off, the noise is fairly steady, but with OIS on, you can hear the noise constantly changing as the lens is moving to compensate for shaking. I also tried setting the focus to continuous…[Read more]

More-or-less abandoned stone church, Akron Ohio, probably now owned by Akron University. As the industrial era wound down, Akron U has acquired thousands of acres of land near downtown for bargain prices.

The Q at 28 mm isn't a first choice in birds, but sometimes the little ones let you get close. The beak, closest to the head, shows how young this little birdie is.

Interior of church – I needed to select and darken (gamma, lightness) the large white object containing the Jesus-figure behind the altar. It was overexposed, so some surface detail or texture was lost. Still a pretty good win, shooting handheld and JPEG with the Q. I would have preferred to shoot a little higher above the pews, but not having…[Read more]

Here's something I thought would be an interesting juxtaposition – the statue of John C. Calhoun, seen through the framework of this Holocaust Memorial.

Thanks for looking – I'm still growing into the Q. My first 28 was a Nikon Coolpix A, APS-C with 28 mm perspective. It's a great camera, especially given the small size, but the Q is on a new level. I said to someone recently that the Q has more latitude, or forgiveness, than other similarly-sized cameras, and what that means to me is I feel…[Read more]
