New camera, Leica X-E. Introduced in 2014, replacement for X1/X2. I had the X1 in 2010, now the X-E – APS-C, fixed lens with 35 mm equiv. focal length.
1) Just another sunset photo. Note to self: Use spot focus or manual focus on landscapes.
2) This one failed per the above note, but I kept it anyway.
3) Shot through the thick front window glass,…[Read more] -

In reply to: David Farkas wrote a new post, Michael Reichmann, Founder of Luminous Landscape, Passes Away at 71 Yesterday, the photography world suffered a great loss. Micheal Reichmann, known best for founding the Luminous Landscape website 17 years ago, passed away after a year-long battle with cancer. Michael and I […] ViewI will always have Michael next to my heart. Literally. When Luminous Landscape issued DVDs, I bought all of them, and ripped the tracks to MP4 i-device-compatible videos. There are 11 videos on Iceland alone. The good news is, instead of having a nameless or faceless presenter of scenes, Michael and his associates are participants and…[Read more]

In reply to: Kirsten Vignes wrote a new post, Leica X-U (Typ 113) Review: Waterproof. Dustproof. Shockproof. A camera for all my adventures. Leica has been setting benchmarks in photography for over 100 years. From the Ur-Leica, the first successful 35mm film camera, to the M8, the first mainstream digital rangefinder, to the Leica S2, the first medium […] ViewI haven't done underwater yet since someone else is going to do that with my camera – soon they say. But I have done quite a lot of shooting on land, and the X-U reminds me very much of the X1 that I had, with many improvements, not the least of which is the f1.7 lens.

In reply to: David Farkas wrote a new post, Leica and Huawei Announce Technology Partnership for Smartphone Photography Well, this one is interesting. It seems that Leica is looking to join in on the smartphone camera party. More pictures are taken every year by smartphones than any other camera category. Zeiss has been involved in […] ViewIt would be cool to see a Leica lens on a smartphone, but first some observations:
While the lenses on the Panasonic-related D-Lux and D-Lux 6 are/were top-notch lenses, the Leica lens on the new $700 Panasonic ZS-100 is not so great. The Leica lenses on the Leica C and related Panasonic LF1 were not very good at all. The tiny LF1 was $500…[Read more]

In reply to: Josh Lehrer wrote a new post, Leica Announces D-LUX (Typ 109) Solid Gray Today, Leica Camera has introduced a new version of it's popular D-LUX (Typ 109) camera, in a solid gray finish. The camera's technical specifications are identical to the black D-LUX (Typ 109) which means it […] ViewI was considering this, but instead I swapped it out to a photographer for other gear, and bought an Omega Grey Side of the Moon wristwatch. I'm still waiting for another photographer to test my Leica X-U underwater camera, under water. In the meantime, waiting to see what Leica will introduce next.

Just another Leica X-U photo – I really like the detail and look of these, as they remind me of the images from another camera I loved – the Leica X1. I had to go behind a police barrier to get this perspective, as one of the pathways in this public park system has been closed for 2 years due to city and county councils arguing over who is…[Read more]
