dalethorn replied to the topic FS: Leica Noctilux Lens f0.95, like new, $7700. in the forum Gear For Sale 10 years, 5 months ago
This lens has been sold, thanks. I got $7250 minus $150 shipping and insurance for a net of $7100 against my purchase price of $11000. Based on the responses I got from 4 ads over the past couple months (one only), the resale value was less than expected.

With that said, the LF1 battery is dmw-bcn10 while the Leica battery is bp-dc14-u. Both are 3.7v 950mAh. The Panasonic battery runs about 1/3rd the price of the…

dalethorn replied to the topic Should I buy D-Lux 6 or go for the X2 ? Advice please! in the forum D-Lux 10 years, 11 months ago
I had the X1, and currently have the D-Lux6, C-112, and Monochrom/Noctilux. My opinion is that the difference in sensor size may be important if ultimate resolution is critical, but for most purposes, the difference between a fixed 35 mm focal length and the 24-90 mm zoom is a very big difference. If I were set on having the zoom and still wanted…[Read more]

naomisy;5869 wrote: you could resale it on ebay
It got replaced. There was really nothing wrong with the original with the “bubble” or whatever it was, but since I would never sell an $11000 lens on eBay, I wanted to be sure that the bubble would not impact the resale value to Leica users on Leica forums. Leica and Leica Miami solved that…[Read more]

naomisy;5816 wrote: Is this sold yet?
Yes, it's sold, but I wish now I hadn't sold it. It had the perfect feel and the best zoom lens (for quality and for zooming) that I've ever used. I have the Monochrom and the C-112 and the DLux6 now, and also a Panasonic GM1, but I mostly carry the GM1 and I would like to have a X Vario again. Maybe…[Read more]

Thanks! The perspective I have here was only possible from one position, and required nearly the full 200 mm effective zoom. At a wider angle we would have seen (and captured) many bright lamps that light the public park area, which is…[Read more]

Thanks! It was a rare coincidence – that butterfly is uncommon in my area and it was buzzing around me for some reason, so I got out the camera and followed it over to the plant it perched on. Another uncommon occurrence was the puffy clouds and blue sky behind the butterfly. After taking the photo (several in…[Read more]

My informal 100 percent positive review of this very nifty little camera. Ordinarily the various reviews list pros and cons, but until other cameras start coming on line that compete with this camera on size, quality, and features, I won't have anything on which to base that level of critique.

Just to note, I opened the shutter and used my new Giottos “rocket blower” on the sensor, or more precisely the glass covering the sensor. I took blank blue-sky photos before and…[Read more]

The random symmetries in nature are interesting. The center 4 rectangles taken together look a lot like images of the background radiation of the universe. Probably not unrelated, as heat radiation drives both over different time scales.

Beautiful motifs – great color. Did you by chance run across the (don't know what it's called or where it is) long corridor that has a series of overhead tapestries? There are some amazing sights in China.

I ordered one of those Giottos rocket air blower things. I hope it works. Leica says they “take no responsibility” for whatever happens. Not exactly a confidence builder.

Just an aside – I think this image is going to “go viral” as it's said. I already linked to it on Stereophile's review of a very fine $17k loudspeaker pair – it makes the point that there are great choices of gear in the marketplace for people who are willing to invest in them.

That gave me a good chuckle. Imagine what some of these guys have to do when they're pixel-peeping those gigapixel images that Google and others put together. I don't have the S, but having the MM and X Vario and seeing the detail as well as the integrity from edge to edge, I wouldn't second-guess the S or any of the lenses. I can't imagine anyone…[Read more]
