Had the same experience. I believe I read it depends on whether the battery was in the grip when the camera was switched on or not – or something rather unlogical like that…

The handgrip is out since about half year. Don't think the S2 grip works, but I believe there has already been a discussion about that before.

But I'm a bit concerned about the very tight thread. When removing it from the lens, there is a tendency to rotate the front element instead screing it off.
Can this harm the lens

Indeed, excellent results for portraits. I am not concerned about the thread. I am sure they have tested it sufficiently. Of course it depends a bit on how tight you screw it in. And for safety reasons hold the front element when unscrewing.

I also had problems with SDXC cards on the S… the reason was that they were pre-formatted in ExFAT or something like that. The S could not read or format them. Then I returned the card. I wrote to Leica and they told me that I should reformat the card in the Mac and that it should work then in the S. I could not try it as I had already returned the SDXC, but in any case, if somebody else has the problem, pls. try reformatting on the Mac (or PC) first.

Does the TS adaptor really work on the Leica S with the Hasselblad adaptor? I think I read somewhere that it doesn't… but now insecure. Has anybody tested it? I guess adaptor on adaptor may have problems with the communications.

Yes, I know. It's ok when not sitting on the ocular. But when it sits there, it just falls off too easily. I think it it a great idea, just too weak magnet and hence a bit ill-designed. Prefer the Nikon Dx solution.

Rob,
Thank you for the shots of the lens. Looks more compact than I expected it to be. Any sample image you could paste? I am waiting for the lens for a while and I am quite curious to see whether it was worth the waiting.
Best regards, Alejandro

Wow! Like it. Where did you take it?

Of course, I also use card readers… but still, the firmware should support a proper connection, i.e. not stop the connection when the camera goes into sleep mode.

In fact, this link shows that the latest release candidate for LR4 includes profiles for S lens that haven't even been released yet.
Mark, looking at the link shows profiles for R-lenses which will come back into fashion once the new M is released due to the adaptor that will become available. Together with live view and focus peaking (or peeking?) you will be a whole new set of great glass for your M! 😮

very glad you have one as well.
AndyI totally agree with your view: now there is finally a travel solution without much compromise. Couple it with a 180 and you have a nice allround kit.

The “readiness of the S for M9 type situations” was also one of my biggest concerns, but I have to say that it is performing better than anticipated.
Even at ISO 1600 one should not get scared off by the view at the rear screen. In reality the file looks much better than the screen suggests.
But certainly no replacement for a M9/Noctilux combo, though 🙂

Enclosed are two more pictures that may help illustrate the “high” ISO performance of the new S. No changes done to the file except cropping the JPGs a bit.
70 CS f2.5 ISO 100 @1/3s, ISO 1600 @1/30s
Not intended to do a “nice” shot, just to show the camera performance. Also to get you some DNGs to play with – for those who like doing that.

Here is the DNG to the “Hi-Liter” picture. Hope it works.
