Because of the price tag, the idea that it’s a Leica and the thought that a medium format camera has to sit in a collector’s box or on a tripod one might not really understand just how liberating it is to carry the S2 around on a daily basis.
Especially if that means exposing it to the grime and dirt of the streets, the sweat dripping off of your brow and the occasional rainstorm. Not that anyone here needs my advice … but the best thing that you do with your S2 is use it. The results will amaze you.
As an example, here are some shots from yesterday as I continue my stay in Manila by walking around an endless surplus of side streets littered with smiling but poor residents. Halfway through my walk, I got caught in a downpour. It was one of those tropical downpours that drop several inches of rain in a matter of minutes. Looking for cover, I realized that I was more concerned about me not getting wet … not the S2.
It also reaffirmed my belief that once you feel very comfortable with a system, it will allow you to get a much more up-close and personal interaction with your subjects.
In the middle of the down pour, I was able to share an umbrella with two young boys who had the same general disregard for what the elements or life was trying to unleash upon them … they simply squatted and continued on with their lunch.

Kurt, again some really nice pictures.
I’m already looking forward when at some point in your life you have to decide which one are the strongest you would like to put together in a book.

Thanks Pete. The great thing about getting out and shooting everyday is that it provides me with a convenient excuse to ignore the notion of self-editing … for better or worse.
