Today, Leica has announced a new special edition variant of the top-of-the-line SL2 professional mirrorless camera. Limited to just 1000 pieces worldwide, the SL2 Silver Edition features the same impressive specs as the standard all-black SL2. The changes here are purely cosmetic, swapping out the standard black aluminum for striking silver top and bottom plates, as well as a more traditional textured black leather cladding. Control elements contrast nicely in black against the silver. Weight of the camera remains unchanged with silver anodized aluminum conuctrustion used here rather than the heftier silver chrome over brass found on the Leica M11.

The two-tone design is reminiscent of the Leica R system cameras, which were available in silver dating back to the original R3 in 1976 and available until the R8, produced through 2002. Going back even further, Leica's earliest SLR camera, the Leicaflex of the 1960s, also came in silver. And of course, Leica M cameras have enjoyed a long history of silver versions, most recently with the latest M11. There is certainly a timeless quality to a silver two-tone Leica camera, and we're loving the look here on the SL.

While its M and Q cousins have enjoyed numerous limited releases over the years, Leica rarely offers special variants of the SL. In fact, the SL2 Silver Edition is only the second special edition, following the highly sought after SL2-S Reporter released last year. Priced identically to a standard SL2 at $6,995 in the US, the global run of 1000 cameras is sure to go quickly.

Press Release

Leica Camera is thrilled to introduce the new silver design variant of the renowned Leica SL2 camera. Taking a nostalgic twist, this design harks back to the vintage appeal of the classic Leica M and Leica R camera series, creating a camera with a sophisticated, timeless aesthetic.

The silver Leica SL2 boasts a silver anodized top plate and base plate, providing a striking contrast to the elegant black leather covering reminiscent of the Leica M11. The distinct, minimalist design highlights Leica's commitment to functional elegance and haptic value, resulting in a camera that is as visually stunning as the images it captures.

Not only does this new variant embody the unmistakable Leica design language, but it perfectly marries the past with the present by incorporating the technical specifications of the modern SL2 series. While celebrating the brand's historic roots, the silver Leica SL2 doesn't compromise on features or performance, bringing you the best of both worlds.

The SL2's vintage-inspired look coupled with its state-of-the-art features makes it an appealing choice for customers who appreciate the charm of the past yet crave the advancements of the present. This product is limited to 1000 pieces worldwide.
