On May 1st, prices on a bunch of Leica products are going up. For the most part, the increases aren't major, and don't impact all products across the board. The entire SL System is unchanged. S lenses remain the same. Mainly, M System cameras and lenses are the most affected.
Keep reading for a full breakdown of the changes.
System Cameras
The biggest increase comes on the S (Typ 007), going from $16,900 to $18,950. Honestly, this one seems pretty steep. The S007 is an amazing camera, but this $2,000 bump puts it further out of reach for those looking to get into the S System. If you have been thinking about stepping up to S, now might be a good time to do so.
Looks like most M cameras, except the M (Typ 240), M-P (typ 240) and M-D (Typ 262) are going up in price. Here, the changes aren't so drastic. But, those waiting on the M10 will notice that it gets repriced at $6,895, which is $300 more than it debuted at in January. Most dealers should be honoring the original price for existing pre-orders.

M Lenses
Thankfully, the increases on M lenses are just in the $100-200 range, and many lenses won't change at all, such as the Summarit-M range and the 50mm APO Summicron-M ASPH.
M10 Accessories
Along with the increase on the M10 body, a lot of the accessories for the camera are going up as well. While the changes aren't huge dollar-wise, I do wonder why the prices weren't simply set at launch three months ago.

Leica C (Typ 112)
Lastly, the little Leica C gets a small price bump. While not a significant amount, this one is somewhat strange. The C is going on four years old at this point, which is quite mature for a compact digital camera.

18489 | Leica C, Dark Red | $695 | $629 | $66 |

It’s quite amazing Leica cannot deliver the M10/ but can raise prices? Please.
Leica is delivering M10s, and has been since January. The issue is one of maximum production versus demand. The M10 is a hand-made product. It takes time to assemble, calibrate and test. As such, they can only make a limited amount per day. On the flip side, the demand is massive. Leica can’t just make 50,000 cameras in one go. If history is a guide, meeting the initial M10 demand will most likely take another 6-8 months.
Thanks David. I certainly accept all you’ve said but note it is very unusual for a manufacturer of most products, including luxury products, to raise prices before the initial wave of demand is met. More elegant to have simply introduced the product at $6895…IMO. Thanks again for your thoughtful respons.
