Leica is now offering some significant savings with updated pricing on Leica CL Bundle kits. These new Leica CL Bundles give purchasers the option of pairing the Leica CL either with the ultralight and compact Elmarit-TL 18mm f/2.8 ASPH prime lens, or the capable and flexible Vario-Elmar-TL 18-56mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH zoom lens.
Both lens choices will be available with a black or silver finish CL body, and the CL Starter Bundle Silver will also include a matching silver 18mm lens. Unfortunately, the zoom lens only comes in black so in the case of the CL Vario Bundle Silver, only the camera is silver.
At just $2,995 for the CL Starter Bundle with 18mm lens, the set is actually $100 less expensive than a CL body only, and a whopping $1,595 than the combo purchased separately. When looking at pricing of the CL Vario Bundle, the kit is $3,650, or a $1,340 savings. Either way, this is an amazing value for a great camera. I'm a huge fan of the Leica CL and use one personally. I guess the CL is not selling that well…
My guess is the cost is too high when adding a non-kit lens for APS-C buyers to bear. Many probably prefer to make the jump to full frame for that kind of money.
I always found its top plate kind of ugly to be honest, especially when compared to the X113/XVario era cameras it replaced. I probably would have bought one for my wife but not having labeled shutter/aperture dials turned me off.
A bridge camera at this price point should have offered direct controls for those settings without the dicky LCD.
If they’d just updated the internals from the X113, added the EVF in a less obtrusive way and obviously the L mount it probably would have sold better.
It should have been an APS-C Q with L mount?
