Leica has just launched its brand new Cine 1 Ultra-Short Throw 4K HDR Projector. Featuring the latest technology packed into a sleek, machined aluminum chassis, the Leica Cine 1 looks more like a piece of artwork than the typical black or white plastic box usually associated with home projectors. Elegant rounded corners, crisp sides with perforations for the internal speakers, a motorized sliding dust cover top, and naturally, the classic red Leica dot on the front, let you know this is not your ordinary laser TV. But this isn't just a pretty face. The Leica projector employs cutting-edge tech and outputs some jaw-dropping image quality.
Triple Laser and DLP Engine
Under the hood, the Cine 1 uses an RGB triple laser light engine, paired with a 0.47-inch 4K XPR DLP chip, providing an extremely bright 3000 ANSI lumens, dynamic contrast of 2,000,000:1 and a color gamut covering more than 100% of BT.2020. Boasting a lifespan of over 25,000 hours of use, the three lasers run cool and quiet, with the fans topping out at less than 32 dB, barely more than ambient room noise.
Leica Lens
Pixel-perfect 4K resolution is delivered to the screen through a proprietary Leica Summicron lens. Unlike many projectors with zooms, Leica opted for the highest quality prime lens they could design, resulting in distortion-free images, with corner-to-corner sharpness. To accommodate different user needs, the Cine 1 comes in two models, a 120 inch version and a 100 inch version, each with a unique lens design.
Leica Image Optimization and HDR
And to maximize image quality even further, the Cine 1 images get a boost from Leica's in-house LIO processing. Leica Image Optimization uses special algorithms to optimize every image in a sequence, resulting in vivid, yet natural color reproduction, detailed color and tonal gradations, and exceptional contrast. Given its bright output and large color gamut, the projector is perfect for HDR content, supporting HDR10+, HLG and the latest Dolby Vision standards. For purists, there is a Filmmaker Mode, which guarantees faithful reproduction of movies and shows using embedded metadata.
Connectivity and smart features
Powered by Google TV, the Cine 1 comes ready to stream from a wide variety of sources, including Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, AppleTV+, YouTube and more. There's even a tuner built-in. Google Voice can be activated any time from the all-metal remote control making navigating to content quick and convenient.
And with AirPlay, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi 6 wireless options, in addition to HDMI 2.1 and USB 3.0 ports, it's simple to connect and play video, audio, still images or even use as a wireless display from your computer. The Cine 1 is designed to eliminate clutter and function as a single home entertainment center.
Dolby Atmos Speakers
The Cine 1 even has 2×25 Watt Dolby Atmos speaker system built in, hidden behind the perforated aluminum skin. And while it can be paired up with any high-end home theater surround sound system, the Cine 1 can function on its own with room-filling audio.
Benefits of Ultra Short Throw Projection
Traditional home theaters are absolutely incredible for an immersive viewing experience. But they take up tons of space, require light-controlled rooms, and usually involve some level of construction or renovation. A UST projector like the Cine 1 just needs to be placed on a piece of furniture with a screen either mounted on the wall behind it, or one that tucks away when not in use. For traditional front projectors, you need a lot of distance from the lens to the screen (at least 12 to 15 feet), and the room needs to be very dark, with no daylight or light sources when viewing.
This isn't the case for the Cine 1. Ultra short throw projectors display an image at a very steep angle onto a special ALR screen designed to only reflect light from that angle. Other ambient light is blocked, resulting in deeper blacks, higher contrast and a more pleasing image, even in a lit room. This makes the Cine 1 perfect for a general living space. Unlike a wall-mounted TV, the Cine 1 doesn't take up valuable wall space when not in use. It can be moved easily and doesn't require construction to install.
And because it's a projected image, rather than an illuminated TV panel, the image can be larger (either 100 or 120 inches), while also being more cinematic and producing less eye strain. Watching your favorite movies on a huge screen is so much more engaging than even a large TV.

Press Release
Leica Camera AG enters the market for large-scale TV and home cinema products with its first laser TV, Leica Cine 1, and sets new standards for the future of television.
With its unique triple RGB laser technology, the Leica Cine 1 delivers particularly bright images and breathtaking color rendition with a service life of over 25,000 hours. Its sophisticated Summicron lens with aspherical elements is manufactured in accordance with Leica standards and is precisely matched to the image size to ensure consistently high imaging performance. This is the first time that the unmistakable character and outstanding quality of a Leica image can be experienced on 80- or 100-inch displays in 4k quality in moving pictures. The outstanding picture is supported by an integrated, high-performance Dolby Atmos audio system for the perfect home cinema experience.
On top of that, connectivity is at the highest level: the integrated TV tuner including CI slot for pay TV channels provides linear TV enjoyment and the VIDAA smart TV launcher opens up the world of streaming entertainment for users. Hard drives or additional players such as Blu-ray players or game consoles can be connected via the built-in HDMI and USB inputs. The screen mirroring function rounds off the streaming experience. What’s more, it’s good for long, top-quality home cinema nights: the projected image of the Leica Cine 1 is considerably less fatiguing for the eyes than conventional TV displays.
In addition to its technical specifications, the Leica Cine 1 also impresses with regard to energy consumption and design. Short-range laser technology consumes significantly less energy than an OLED TV of a comparable size, and the typically puristic Leica design language is reflected in the durable, silver premium aluminum body with a slim automatic dust cover for optimum lens protection. Sophisticated and well-thought-out details such as perforated plates on the sides for better audio output and effective ventilation are not only the epitome of the high level of technical precision of the long-established Leica brand, but also underline the high standards of functionality and feel in the design of Leica products.
‘In the future, optical expertise will become a key success factor in the TV market, the largest consumer electronics market in the world with over US$100 billion in annual sales. I am therefore proud that, in cooperation with our strategic partner and on the basis of our world-leading optical expertise, we have succeeded in creating an extraordinary product with the Cine 1: ‘Optical high-tech meets design.’ With the Cine 1, consumers can experience cinematic pleasure in the comfort of their own homes at the highest audiovisual level – cinema is coming home,’ says Matthias Harsch, CEO of Leica Camera AG.
Dr Andreas Kaufmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and majority owner of Leica Camera: ‘Projection has been around for a long time at Leica under the Pradovit brand, which is why the new entry into the laser TV segment is a logical step. I would like to say one thing about our new Leica Cine 1: welcome back to the future! With this device, our customers can now also enjoy the authentic Leica look in the intelligent projection segment and experience the best Leica picture quality as a cinematic experience at home.’
